Foods rich in Iron

Iron is needed to form hemoglobin. Iron is mostly stored in the body in the hemoglobin.The iron in haemoglobin combines with oxygen and transports it through the blood to all parts of the body. Anemia is a result of iron deficiency. About 30 percent of iron is also stored as ferritin and hemosiderin in the bone marrow, spleen, and liver.

Iron absorption by body:
One important factor being the form of the iron. Heme Iron, found in animal sources, is highly available for absorption. Non-heme iron on the other hand, found in vegetable sources, is less available.
